Support the "DREAM Act"!
This is an important time to make your voice heard in Congress. The future of immigrant students across the nation depends on the “Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act,” which is scheduled to be voted on in the Senate as early as next week! The “DREAM Act” is legislation that would remove existing barriers that prevent immigrant youth from fully contributing to our country because of their lack of legal status. Don’t let our country lose another generation of young people who stand to contribute to our economy and society—sign the petition below to urge your members of Congress to vote in support of this critical piece of legislation!
We are calling on Congress to pass a commonsense piece of immigration reform called the “DREAM Act” (S. 729). It is a measure that would provide a path to citizenship for thousands of young people who are Americans in every way but the paperwork—provided they have shown good character and either
attend college or serve in the military for two years.
Some of the youth who would qualify to earn citizenship under the “DREAM Act” are valedictorians; others are future nurses, computer programmers, and soldiers. The bipartisan “DREAM Act” would put these youth on a path to citizenship instead of wasting millions of taxpayer dollars rounding them up and deporting them to countries they do not know.
If Congress fails to act this fall, America will lose another educated class of promising immigrant students who have demonstrated hard work and a strong commitment to their communities. Many members of Congress have not yet committed to supporting this crucial effort to pass the “DREAM Act.” We need your firm support to make this dream a reality!
