On Friday, May 20, after a strenuous debate and numerous procedural maneuvers, the Texas Senate Committee on Transportation and Homeland Security approved House Bill (HB) 12, putting this shameful legislation up for a vote in the full Senate this week!

HB 12 would divert law enforcement away from their real job:  keeping Texas communities safe.  Sold as a bill to ban “sanctuary cities,” HB 12 could actually prevent local police departments from keeping Texas cities and neighborhoods safe by requiring them to enforce federal immigration laws.  This would mean that local police would be unable to focus on the effective community policing policies that keep our families safe from crime.  

The Senate may be voting on this harmful bill at any minute!  Email your Texas Senators below!  Tell them to oppose HB 12 and keep Texas communities safe.
